Gameplay[edit]

Test Drive: Eve of Destruction is a racing game based on the United States demolition derby circuit. The player competes in multiple racing events based on standard American demolition derby shows, such as standard demolition derbies and races. The game features an 'Action' Mode, where players can choose what car they use and which kinds of race they want to participate in, as well as a 'Career' Mode.

Most standard races involve some sort of gimmick, such as a jump race (where ramps are part of a normal circuit track), a Figure-8 Jump Race (where racers drive on a figure-8 track with jumps at the intersection between the loops), a suicide race (where half of the race's participants drive in a different direction to the other half, leading to head-on collisions at points in the race), among others. Also included are variations of demolition derby and race modes, such as school bus races, trailer races, where all drivers have a trailer attached to their cars, the Push Off, a demolition derby where cars are eliminated either when they are totalled or when they are pushed off of the platform, and 'Wrangling', an event where the player has to destroy a fast but weak car as quick as possible. Action mode has single player and multiplayer support, as well as 'DARE', a challenge mode.

In the Career mode, the player starts as a new racer on the demolition derby circuit, and must work their way up the rankings by competing in Eves, events with scheduled races at one of the game's venues. As the player progresses through the Career mode, they are able to purchase new cars and sell off old ones at a scrapyard; this is required as cars that are frequently destroyed during races have permanent penalties to their maximum health and stats, making them harder and less practical to drive. As the player progresses through the Career, new venues and events become open, which feature more races and harder drivers; the player's final position in an Eve affects how much prize money they receive and how they rank on the circuit leaderboard.
