But we do love a good word game here at PG. You might expect that given that many of us write words for a living. But a good word game can transcend the level of your vocabulary and simply prove fun to play in its own right.

Interestingly, the following word draw an agreeable number of elements from other genres. Some take from the block puzzler genre, others the physics puzzler genre. Some are more like narrative adventures or RPGs than puzzlers.

Who says word games have to be dry puzzlers? Spellspire is an action RPG, but one where your attacks are powered by your vocabulary.

TypeShift

The maker of SpellTower also produced this fine word game. TypeShift is a concise and stylish blend of anagrams, word searches, and crosswords.

Words With Friends

Perhaps the most famous game on this list, Words With Friends is the perennially inclusive online Scrabble-like that every person and their Mum seems to have played.

Alphabetty Saga

What would the casual game masters behind Candy Crush Saga do with the humble word game? Make AlphaBetty Saga is what. The game takes Scrabble and applies King's familiar bite-sized objectives structure.
